École WILFRID WALKER School

This year, we are participating in the "Adopt an Athlete Program". Through this program, we have been matched with a former École Wilfrid Walker student and Olympic Gold Medalist in Long Track Speed Skating, Lucas Makowsky. Students will be working with Lucas throughout the year. As part of the program, the school has agreed to help Lucas with his training budget by holding two fundraisers. Lucas will also visit the school twice in 2010. Students are encouraged to send Lucas messages and he will be writing a message to students on a regular basis. To date, we have raise $1214 for Lucas through our October coin drive. The Student Council sold candy canes in December and raised another $611 for Lucas. The grand total for our fundraising efforts is $1825. Merci tout le monde pour vos efforts!

Former student and adopted athlete, Lucas Makowsky, competed in Long Track Speed Skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. On Saturday, February 27th, Lucas and the Men's Pursuit Team won a Gold Medal. Way to Go Lucas!

FÉLICITATIONS LUCAS! Lucas qualified for his spot on the Canadian Olympic Speed Skating Team in early January. In Vancouver, Lucas competed in the 1500m, 5000m and Team Pursuit competitions. We are so proud of you Lucas and loved seeing you live out your Olympic dream in Vancouver.

Lucas' Olympic Schedule: 5000m on Feb. 13th (finished 13th), 1500m on Feb. 20 (finished 19th) and Team Pursuit on Feb. 26th and 27th (finished first with a gold medal).
